Morocco 2023-2024 Day 19 (1/6/2024) - Ouzoud Falls to Ifrane

Off to our next destination Ifrane (pronounced E-fron), but Zak wanted to take a detour to show us one of the biggest lakes in Morocco

More very winding roads through the countryside.

To all our disappointment, the lake is down to 2 percent of its capacity due to climate change.  Morocco has built several desalination plants along the coast and will be refilling their lakes as they come online.
water is extremely important for agriculture in Morocco as Morocco provides about 23% of Europes agricultural imports.

Stop at a little cafe for a cup of Moroccan Mint Tea

We drove and drove and drove for miles through back roads. Zak said we were going to stop in the historic town of Beni Melal.  After a while Sarah decided Beni Melal was a ficticious place that didn't really exhist.

Finally we made it to Beni Melal

Walking through a park there, the trees were full of cats, only three in the picture, but about 8 in the tree

Castle from the 1500's that overlooks Beni Melal

While we were walking through the park, Zak had someone washing the car

It was dark by the time we arrived at our hotel "The Michlifen Resort and Golf Club" in Ifrane

They served us Moroccan Tea while doing our registration paperwork. Here in Morocco, they have to report to the government the names and pasport numbers of tourists travelling through the country.

Beautiful Hotel
