Morocco 2023-2024 Day 28 (1/15/2024) - Tangier Cape Spartel
The Beautiful Lighthouse at Cape Spartel. This is the official division point between the Atlantic and Mediterranean anything West of here is the Atlantic and East of here the Mediterranean.
Gorgeous Day
The Bears came along
This trecherous coastline has circular currents that you could actually see. These would drive ships into the rocks.
Someone went out to this rock to paint the Moroccan Flag on it.
(a field of Red dith a Green 5 pointed star in the center)
The orientation of this map is off (North is to the left, South to the Right and East at the top)
The lighthouse building actually has a courtyard in the middle
Looking up from the bottom of the tower
Looking down on the chandalier
Looking at the beautiful color of the water from the top of the tower
Looking East into the Mediterranean
We have seen practically no grafitti in Morocco, so I have to attribute this to stupid tourists
Looking down from the tower to an area where they are updating the landscaping
Looking West to the Atlantic
Artistic Statuary
The sign designating the dividing line.
Close by is the Grotto de Hercule (Cave of Hercules) according to legend this is where he encountered the 11th of the trials of Hercules.
Inside the cave looking out to the sea
Sarah was the first one to the bottom of teh cave and of course foung the guy with the parrots
Cecile didn't go into the cave so Sarah posed with the bears
Looking very Regal
Reportedly there is a footprint in stone in Tangier (Tanger if the French spelling), which is claimed to be that of Hercules, based on the size of it (about 18 inches long) he might have been a Sasquatch
