Morocco 2023-2024 Day 25 (1/12/2024) - Chefchaouen to M'diq

Bidding farewell to Chefchaouen we are headed up towards the Mediterranean coast, but we don't take any direct routes, so off to see more countryside.

through the mountains to a quaint little village of Akchour

During the summer this place is bustling according to Zak, but it's winter and pretty quiet

Cecile said "strike a pose"

Behind this small dam os a lake where folks like to swim during the summer.  Too cold to do that this time of the year

The streams are also great for wading and cooling off during the hot summer months

Here's a pose

The water is so clear behind the dam that you can clearly see the vegetation growing on the bottom about 15-20 feet deep

There are cafes along the stream

We reached the Mediterranean coast

Zak spotted some women selling fresh buttermilk so quickly stopped to get some

Heading back inland to the city of Tetuan

The old city wall with canon mounts

Cervantes spoke of this city in his story The Man of La Mancha

The local History Musuem was our next stop, but Zak had to translate all the signs for us as they were all in Arabic or Berber

A traditional Berber wedding dress

Imam's Chair from a Mosque

Influence on dress from Aldalusia

The courtyard of the museum was the ramparts of the fort complete with cannons

There was a huge cemetary next to the walls of the old city

Zak wanted us to experience an authentic Moroccan Fish Fry

Way nore food than you can consume

Sofitel M'diq

Another magnificent hotel

Time for a cocktail

Here is service while having a cocktail the maid came to the room, drew a bath, lit candles and
left a pot of hot water for tea
