Tour of a Noni Fruit Farm
Started the day with a tour of a Noni Fruit Farm near Anahola. Noni Fruit has been shown to have incredible health benefits, however the shelf life is about 3-5 hours so you will never see them in a store. The farm in Kauai has developed a process where they dehydrate the fruit at a low temperature (below 115 degrees) and make it into flat sheets referred to as fruit leather.
they also make lotions that have been proven to help repair ligaments and tendons so being used by many sports teams.
We tasted the ripe fruit and not what I would call good (in the ripe form it tastes like Blue Cheese.
Steve (the owner of the farm) feeding a bird coconut, the bird sees him and flies right up to be fed.
Noni is an unusual plant, it produces a fruit, then the blossoms pop out of the fruit. In the mature fruit, the brown spots are where there was a blossom.
On the tree you can have multiple stages side by side here there are four different stages side by side on one branch.
This tree in the Ficus family has a fruit that pops open and looks like a flower. They are not edible.
Around the property they have giant Agave plants 12-15 feet tall
Water Lily
After the tour we headed on up to Hanalei and had a late lunch at Kalypso
