3-02-2022 Panoramic Barbados

Started the day with a panoramic tour of the beautiful Island if Barbados.  Unlike St Lucia that was mountainous and volcanic Barbados was pushed up from the ocean floor and is fairly flat like a pancake.  This was the only island in the Caribbean that did not change hands multiple times and has been British since its settling.  There had been a native population on the island at one time, but left before the arrival of the Europeans.  The natives that left the island had built small bridges over the streams around the Capitol Bridgetown, which i where it got its name.

As we walked from the ship this morning there was a rainbow to greet us

Still many fields of sugar cane on this island, almost all used to make Rum

Sunbury Plantation House dating back to 1660

Old Cane Wagon

Complimentary Rum Punch for the guests

Manor House Dining Room

Parlor

Patio

Many varieties of palms here, but locals here refer to this one as the Politician Palm
"Promises a lot but delivers noting"

Coconut palms

Orchids grow on many of the trees, but not in bloom currently

This little bird sat on the palm flower gorging himself on the bees as they landed, and there were hundreds of bees

St John Parish Church (Anglican)

Our tour guide telling the history of the church.  The parish churches were the center os every community, where everything was conducted including politics.

The Pulpit Made of several woods from the island, but primarily Mahogany

Pipe Organ

Former British military Officer who insisted on being buried standing facing the Atlantic

Looking from the church out over the Atlantic

Just Monkeying around at the port.  The Green Barbados Monkey is being studied
because it is the only animal that is immune to the HIV Virus

  1. Another GREAT day of adventures!! Sunbury Plantation House is gorgeous. The interior reminds me of some of the houses we saw in New Orleans and Natchez. The wood in that church is incredible. Guess I didn't realize mahogany could withstand the moisture so well. Colin, the last photo says it all...you really DO love to monkey around!! (hee, hee, hee!!!!) Love you guys! Debbie
