4/7/2024 Passau, Germany Walking Tour (Morning)

Another beautiful day as we arrive in the beautiful town of Passau, which is on the German side of the German, Austria border. IT sits at the confluence of three rivers, the Danube, the Inn River and Ilz River. and was founded by the Celts more that 2000 years ago.

Another town that had been ruled by a Prince Bishop, the Bishop here had a residence in town and also a castle fortress overlooking the town.

This area has been subject to floods over thhe years with the most recent one in 2013.  The high water marks on the wall show the height. with the 2013 flood been the second worst in history.

Tower of the town hall (Rathaus)

The Popular Hotel Wilder Man

The sign translates to the Executioner's House, this is actually an entertainment venue with a movie theater and a live performance theater inside.

This was where the salt was ofloaded off of ships for transport to the region.

Being a religious population this is an example of a door on one of the houses.

Heading towards the baroque St. Stephen's Cathedral

Cathedral Square.

Following are a number of photos inside St. Stephen's Cathedral. As I mentioned in a previous post, pictures could never do justice to the beauty of teh cathedrals here.  In my humble opinion, this is the most beautiful cathedral I have ever visited.
