4/6/2023 George Washington's Birthplace
Located in the "Northern Neck" Region of Virginia lies Pope Creek Plantation, which was owned by George Washington's Father. This is where George was born and spent the first three years of his life.
He later returned here in his teen years and lived with his Half brother (after his father's death).
Three of the first five U.S> presidents were born in the "Northern Neck" region of Virginia.
The main house
Pope's Creek Plantation
The Trees were gorgeous
Back of the House
Looking out onto Pope's Creek (biggest creek I have ever seen). A sand bank and narrow passage separates Pope Creek from the Potomac River
Lots of Flowers in the gardens
The Kitchen Building
They have a demonstration area in this building for spinning wool and other crafts, although this was originally done in one of the other out buildings.
Fenced corrals for horses, sheep and Oxen
Blacksmith's and carpenter's shop
Building used to hang and dry Tobacco, the primary money crop on the plantation
Monument at the entrance of the property (I found it unusual that there was no plaque or
inscription on the monument)
After visiting Washington's Birthplace we stopped of at the Ingleside Winery
Back for dinner to the Dockside Restaurant and Tiki Bar in Colonial Beach
This would be a fun place in the summer
They even have picnic tables on a pontoon boat
Stage on teh beach
During the summer they set the boat up as a Beer Bar
Some Wild drinks
Shortly down the road from Colonial Beach is the birthplace of James Monroe (5th President of the USA) The home lo longer exists, but there is a marker and monument
