4/5/2023 George Washington's Mount Vernon



George Washington's Mount Vernon.  Owned earlier by his Half Brother, he leased the plantation from his brother's widow until her death when he inherited it outright.  The primary crop here was tobacco.

This was referred to as a Riding Chair less expensive than a formal carriage and 
practical for the day

Also located on the property is a memorial to the people who were enslaved here and who are burien in the slave cemetery on this part of the property
