The Full Acropolis Experience

  Day 7 – Athens (Piraeus), Greece   Sunday, November 9 Driving out of the port, you com upon this beautiful Greek Orthodox Church. We drove past the ancient harbor of Zea, its dock dating to the 5th century BC although it is hard to tell where the old harbor ends and the new one starts. This is a bustling harbor.  there were three Viking cruise ships at the port and at least 15 ferries that travel to the surrounding islands. The tour description said "Upon arrival at the Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, climb 80 steps through the Propylaeum, the grand entrance that delivers you to the plateau of the rock"  This was a lie they did not tell you about the six sets fo 20 steps each followed by hills to climb  to get to that 80 steps.  Once you get to the top, you can look down into the conservatory, an ampatheter where music venues are held. and that can seat approximately 2000 people. Heraklion (Crete) & Archaeological Museum

Day 6 – Crete (Heraklion), Greece   Saturday, November 8 Heraklion & Archaeological Museum Departing the ship, numerous crew members with their red umbrellas lined the walk greeting all the guests that passed. Really A fun way to set off on a tour. First stop was at the recently  renovated Heraklion Archaeological Museum and learn the history of the Minoan Civilization. The first known European Civilization. They have the museum laid out as an historical timeline.  Stating back as far as 2500 BC and you can see the improvement and progression over the centuries. The Minoans were excellent metal workers and jewelers.  This piece is a necklace that dates back over 3800 years, depicting two honey bees putting honey into the hive. A work of art depicting a Bullfight. They would grab the bull by the horns, the bull would flip them into the air and they would do a flip and land behind the bull.  Sarcophagus City Hall building in Heraklion.

Magnificent Aegean and Mediterranean Vistas

  Day 5 – Rhodes, Greece  ,   Friday, November 7 Today's tour was called - East Coast Island Drive This l eisurely  bus tour took us around the island of Rhodes  traveling past dramatic vistas. We drove along the island’s east coast through lush vineyards and fertile olive groves. LIghthouse at the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes The walls of the ancient city. Good morning for the crew to do Lifeboat drills and training.  In Lin s dos, we made a photo stop to take in the village’s cluster of whitewashed houses hugging the shore and the rocky outcropping and acropolis overlooking the beautiful St Paul's Bay In Kolympia, once a traditional fishing village and now a small resort area we stopped glass of ouzo or wine with traditional local meze (snacks) at a seaside taverna before returning to the ship. The owner of the Taverna wanted a picture with Cecile.

Biblical History & An Ancient City

    Day 4 – Ephesus (Port of Kuşadasi), Turkey Thursday, November 6 We arrived in the port of Kusadasi last night about 9 PM Our tour began at 8:30 AM, leaving by bus to travel about 5 miles beyond Ephesus to the    St. John brought Mary, the mother of Jesus, here to live out her final days after the Crucifixion  the  home has been recognised by the Cathoic church as Mary's Home. It is a modest stone building with two rooms one believed to be the living room the other a bedroom.  Unfortunately they do not allow photos inside the building. There is a beautiful statue of Mary On the pathwy below the house is a wall where people write notes on cloth pieces and tie to this wall. Next to the house is an open air church where regular services are held. A Legendary Ancient City

  Day 3 – Troy (Çanakkale), Turkey Wednesday, November 5 We were sceduled to explore the legendary Ancient ciy of Troy with an expert guide and take in the sights of Çanakkale. However, because of severe weather, we were not able to dock at the port, so are spending the day at sea on the way to our next destination.   STOP CANCELLED The wind made the flag stand straight out The city walls as we passed at 6:30 AM
