8-9-2020 Last Stop Morgan Hill

Image
Decided to get out of Redding before it got to be too hot again today and we were on the road by 7:30 AM. Even though it was a Sunday morning, there was lots of traffic, but we got into Morgan Hill by about 12:30. Hot here but not nearly as bad as Redding.  After getting the campsite set up, we decided to check out local wineries.  Kirigin Cellars was our first stop, but they were not doing tasting, so off to Fortino's Winery.  They were set up in the patio with the tables far apart. Nice antipasto plate with a flight of wines. Happy Honey

8-7-2020 Burney Falls & 8-8-2020 Sundial Bridge

At the McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is the spectacular Burney Falls.  Pictures just do not do them justice.  In our opinion, one of the country's most beautiful falls. The falls are fed by underground springs so many of the streams of water are coming right out of the wall of the cliff.  Total height of the falls is 129 feet. On the way back to the RV, we made a little stop off for a visit to the Matson Vineyards  for a little wine tasting.  Very nice, with friendly people. 8-8- 2020 Far too hat to do much today, 105 degrees in Redding.  We did take the time to visit a local attraction, the Sundial Bridge.  We tried a couple of wineries, but everything closed because of Covid.   The Bridge is a pedestrian Bridge over the Sacramento River Looking down the Sacramento River Looking up River These Large Markers are the Hour markers At 15 minute increments there are flat markers. We were there at 1:28 so it is pretty accurate.  The markers are set so that on June 21st the

8-4-2020 Back in California & Lassen National Park

Left Medford,  Oregon and headed South passing back into California (the only state we passed through with a Border Agricultural Inspection station).  Arrived in Redding California with a temperature of 95 degrees, made us want to turn around and head the other direction.  Passing Mt. Shasta and Lake Shasta, we couldn't get very good pictures because of the haze created by the various brush fires in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Mt. Shasta Shrouded in Haze from the brush fires. Lake Shasta Water Level Down Substantially A Lot of the Houseboats are in Storage Staying in Redding, but hot in the valley around Redding, so we headed up the mountain to Lassen Volcanic National Park.  One of the only places where you you can see four different kinds of Volcanoes in one area.  Mt. Harkness is a Shield Volcano, Lassen Peak is a Plug Dome volcano, Brokeoff Mountain is a Composite Volcano, and there are cinder cone volcanoes.  There are a few geothermal features, including boiling

8-1-2020 Crater Lake and Rogue River

Image
Got into Medford yesterday afternoon, so off to Crater Lake this Morning, There are a number of fires in Northern California and Southern Oregon, so there is a lot of smoke in the air making a haze.  Fortunately up at the lake there was very little haze, so we had a wonderful day enjoying the lake. The Deepest Lake in the U.S. at over 1900 Feet Deep, also has the cleanest water.  The deep Blue color is because of the depth, the other wavelengths of light are  absorbed by the lake and only the blue is reflected.  There are Many picturesque barren trees that make great pictures Along the Rogue River on the way home we found a turn off for a Natural Bridge, which is actually a place where the river drops into a Lava Tube and emerges about 30 yards down stream.
