3/29/2024 Keukenhof Gardens
Keukenhof Gardens, about an hour's drive outside of Amsterdam, is a garden that was originally created as a demonstration garden by the bulb growers of the regios where they could show off their various flowers. It is only open for about two months in the spring when the flowers are in bloom.
The gardens were celebrating their 75th year.
The gardens primarily focus on Tulips, but many varieties of Daffodils can be founs throughout the park
There are pavillions where specialty varieties along with potted displays and information about te various growers can be found. This was the first pavillion we walked through the Willem Alexander Pavillion.
There is a lake in the center of the park with a fountain in the center.
One of our favorites in the park were the various Hyacinth beds
because the beautiful fragrance they were giving off
The growers maintain their own areas so there are various shapes
and patterns of flowers
I had never seen tufted Daffodils like this before
The Beatrix Pavillion was dedicated to Orchids, Bromeliads and Antherium
There were some beautiful displays created for Photo Ops
I had never seen a baby blue and pink orchid before here. This is
according to the sign an award winning variety.
The white blossoms of these cherry trees made for a spectacular sight
This was not a working windmill, it was moved here as a display.
Back in the Willem Alexander Pavillion there was an incredible display of Huge Amaryllis varieties
Some of the varieties of Tulips were larger than any tulips
I have seen in the U.S.
All of the varieties were marked with signs indicating the variety.
They have a catalog you acn order and have bulbs shipped to the U.S.
that are certified to go through customs.
The final pavillion we went to was set up with photo op displays
with cars, bikes, fresh, dried and artificial flowers
How wonderful. Such beautiful flowers especially that blue and pink orchid!
